Australia a Home Port and Destination

Australia a land of many faces

Australia's natives are Aboriginal Peoples. The white settlers came from British roots as the continent of Australia was used essentially as a prison for naughty British folks. You could say they ended up getting the last laugh as Australia, especially Sydney where they first set up shop is constantly rated as the best city in the world, both to live and visit.

For Americans and Canadians in particular it is a lot like home. The language is English, the folks are friendly and especially so towards Americans and Canadians. The food is much like at home, it's so much like home it's easy to settle in. Just don't overstay your Australian Visa.

Getting to Australia, other than by cruise ship is a bit of a long flight but it can easily be achieved in non-stop flights from several West Coast cities as well as the Dallas Fort Worth airport. Even if you do have to stop there are many great connections allowing you to get there without too much difficulty. That is flying into Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane and Cairns are also both relatively easy flights as well.

Many folks don't realize that Australia is roughly the size of the lower 48 US states. So if you fly from the East Coast over to Perth on the West Coast, it is a trans-continental flight and takes several hours to get there.

Kissed by 3 Oceans, Australia has varied topography and many different and unique animals and natural resources. You can find oil off the Northwest coast, not too far from the Australia Oil Capital, Perth which sits up the river a few miles from the Indian Ocean Coast. You can dive with Great White Sharks or see the 12 Apostles Rock Formations off the South Coast which is the Southern Ocean's Australia Coast. On the East Coast of Australia, like the USA East Coast you find the most population from the Country. Unlike the US East Coast the Australian East Coast is on the Pacific Ocean, several thousand miles Southwest from the US West Coast.

While in Australia see Koalas and Kangaroos. You can go South to the island of Tasmania where you will get a chance to see a Tasmanian Devil. All of these animals are pretty much unique to Australia, unless perhaps you are in a zoo somewhere else. Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo in Brisbane is one place not to miss. This is one place where you can interact with Koalas. There are many other places to interact with the Koalas and at some you may even get a chance to hold a Koala and get a picture doing so. It makes for a great souvenir.
